The Story Of The Little Sign That Could!

[And when all was said and done it weighed 500 pounds!]

Lakeside Grill gives way to Cabin Lodge Grill

This project was both a game, and name-changer. It started with a nostalgic industrial design, a bit of history, three extra letters, and a fresh start. Tapping into “authentic” name recognition is a way to build brand trust. Seventy years ago a roadside diner called Cabin Lodge stood on this very spot, and that familiar name is a valuable… and comfortable asset.

Before: There was no signage or identity for the building. The business was formerly called Lakeside Grill

Also Before: This is a Photoshop rendering of the design for the client to approve before fabrication begins. Suggestions for dealing with trash, alternative downspouts, and water collection are made.

The Design Process Starts With Discovery & Exploration

Alternative concepts use different materials for a variety of styles and attitudes.

Fabrication starts in the shop of a local craftsman using to-scale drawings provided by Eloqui. The concept is a design that “molds” the letterforms into the familiar grill or griddle shape. In that way, the materials are used to “forge” the idea of the grilled food served here and the memory of that experience.

Black pressed metal behind aluminum or stainless letters

A scale diagram is made of the design for the clients approval and the purposes of estimating fabrication costs and compatibility of materials. Minor and major alterations can happen at this stage.

The weight was approximated at 500lbs, with each large letter weighing 18lbs.
